Hethe Srodawa

2006 at 10.45 am posted by Veerle Pieters

Hethe Srodawa is a 26 year old concept artist that works in the game/film industry for about 2 years. Before that he was a graphic designer and sometimes an Illustrator. He lives and works in Southern California.

Characters of Hethe Srodawa

I'm not at all amazed that Hethe found work in the game/film industry because his work/style makes me immediately think about it. He is very skilled in character designs! The expressions on their faces and the attention to details are stunning. Character design is not easy believe me, I can learn a thing or two from these.

This girl is my favorite work of Hethe

What inspires you?

That's got to be the question I've been asked the most and it's always hard to answer. I look at it this way, what drives me to want to create art and do this for a living? It's a mixture of other art and life. I've always loved art. I love it to death and I found that with this love came a desire to make it myself. So work by other artists constantly inspire me. Also life inspires me. Life inspires art essentially. Without life there would be no art. The people I see and meet, the places I go, the way light trickles through the leaves of a tree, all these things inspire me. I love to tell stories with art, to capture the emotions of life in what I create. It's a wonderful thing.

Percentage wise what is the balance between sketching on paper and working on the computer?

That balance is probably about 50/50 in my case. I draw a lot on paper before I pick a sketch, scan it and paint it up in photoshop. However, at work I've been painting directly in photoshop with no sketch for the last year now. It sort of depends on what effect I am trying to achieve and also what style.

It is incredible what I see! That realismos. It astonishes the expressions to me of the personages.  Pain is one that in portfolio more works of this style do not appear.  Leonardo

There is not room for argument about how great his work is.

The characters are really nice. Personally I would have dropped the neon lines around them, but that could just be me :) Never the less great skills Hethe!

My mind is blown!

I am currently finding myself making a fascination segueway from vector-style logos/graphics in Illustrator to (what I hope would one day be) a more “artistic” style, I’m guessing in Photoshop.  This guy’s style really lights the fire!

Regarding the transition from sketch to photoshop (or whatever the program is), can anyone recommend any good starting points?  (Books, tutorials, websites, etc?)  Thanks!
