Rodney White is an artist from the US currently working and living in Brooklyn, NY. His work has been featured on TBS's Movie and a Makeover and on ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition. There also have been exhibitions in Atlanta, GA, Anchorage, Alaska.
The most amazing aspect of this work is that it isn't created on a computer but on a canvas instead. I'm amazed by these wonderful typographical beauties. The retro feeling, grunch effect and nice color combinations makes them really stand out. Most of his work contains meaningful messages. Rodney also uses different materials and techniques, mainly acrylic. Most of his paintings are on wood but some are on metallic and there is even one on a faux brick panel.
What inspires Rodney?
Everything. I see things everywhere and everyday that gives me some idea for my pieces. I love to visit flea markets and antique markets. I notice the natural aging of the things around us. Billboard signs, buildings, packages, and aging paper catch my attention.I seek to replicate the rustingand decaying look of the things I see.
Music - all kinds. I am working on a slight taste for country. And that doesn't seem to working out. It is much harder than I thought. My friends Alot of my paintings come from what I write often in my Journal/Idea books. Alot of times my friends and the people I meet say the most brilliant things and they sometimes never mean them the way I hear them.

I agree with you, the typography is beautiful.

I mostly dig two things, the retro look and the use of typography. But I am realy amazed that these are paintings. I never seem to get enough of the vintage look, it’s like every painting has gone through so much in life, they each have a story of their own.

I love everything about graphic, typography and web design, the most i like when you can apply to the web the principles of typography.
It is a big part of typography now that you can not simulate from your computer, i see books that have special effecs, i see printing on the sand and some other interesting stuff. Is very interesting this retro style; i’ve seen lately some websites design with this retro style in mind.

I definately love this artist’s style. I could see these works in a cool restaurant—something like Fuddrucker’s or Applebee’s comes to mind.

These are PIECES not PRINT OUTS. (no, i’m not yelling)
The beauty of each of this artist’s work is how personal each piece is. Each has it’s on character. It’s great. Investors cobble this stuff up cause they know it’s ‘value’ compared to ‘mass production art’. I just fucking love it….wish i could ‘invest’ and not just hang up a framed printout in my franchise restaurant.
