Here at Duoh! we have been using the Sorenson Video 3 Pro Codec for a long time. We had great results with it and it’s probably one of the best codecs on Mac. That was until H.264 came on to the scene. We haven’t got time to play around with it. Fortunately for us, Jeff Harrell did.

The end score is same file size but dramatically different results. If you’re into video this a good read and leaves us with a pleasant feeling that great things will be possible thanks to this new H.264 codec. Eagerly waiting for Apple to ship the new Final Cut Studio ;-)

I’ll bet it is a general feeling among fellow Mac users that it has been a long two weeks since TIGER got announced. Now it is only a matter of counting down the hours until the official launch at 6 PM this evening. I am going to collect my copy at IT Pro in Ghent, not my favourite choice but it is the closest one to home and they can’t mess up a box, however you never know :-p

Yesterday our favorite CEO turned 50. Born under the name Steven Paul Jobs on February 24, 1955 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

He grew up as a child in Mountain View and Los Altos, Calif., an area that later became known as Silicon Valley. Together with his friend Steve Wozniak he founded a company called Apple Computer in 1976 in Jobs family garage. In 1984 something happened that later had an affect on my personal life namely the birth of the Macintosh, the first commercially successful computer with a graphical user interface.

Jobs was forced out of Apple in 1985 but thanks to Gill Amelio who bought NEXT, Jobs returned to his roots. And we all know that since he’s back Apple is on the roll and the future never looked any better. There are even signs on the wall that Apple will get into PVR world by buying TIVO but that’s still a rumor so far.

So thank you Steve for all those wonderful years of Macintosh pleasure you have given me. Maybe a day late (busy you know the drill) but here is my happy birthday to you. I wish you many more “One more things” and continually innovating the IT Industry.

If you’ve ever tried to create good-looking icons then you probably know that some icons can be a real pain, especially getting the message(purpose) across can be difficult. My motto is a program has to look good or otherwise I will loose interest in it even when it has amazing useful features.
