DropSend

I am working on a redesign for for several touristic regio sites here in Belgium. If you think of vacation, you want to see pictures and when I start designing stuff, I want my files to be as big as possible to have all my options open. That’s when e-mailing large files comes into play. You know, we have an Xserve and an FTP account for clients but not all of them are happy or technology minded to use it. You probably have been there too, some of them would even mail 100MB if it would be possible :o)

Many people have asked how I record those tutorial movies so much that it is probably a good idea to do an article about it. Let’s talk “screen shots” or “screen captures.”

Does Dreamweaver 8 still earns a byte on your HD?

While I’ve learned HTML back in the day when there weren’t any WYSIWYG editors yet (1996), I’ve always believed in their added value. I never developed websites entirely in the ‘Design view’ (even not during my table-based period), but I always appreciated the fact that I had the choice to switch between ‘Code view’ and ‘Design view’. During my table-based’ period I used DreamWeaver’s ‘Split view’ a lot, this way I kept an eye on what was happening under the hood. If you select an item in the ‘Design view’, the corresponding code is highlighted, a real time saver if you ask me.

Digital Asset Management II: Meet Catalog!

7 comments 2005 at 01.01 am posted by Veerle Pieters

Last year in December we talked about Digital Asset Management tools and none of all the tested apps were really perfect. The best one was Portfolio from Extensis but that tool is more suited for photographers or image file formats. It is not created to be an archive tool for DVD or CD’s that contain a wide range of different formats.

My thoughts on NetNewsWire 2.0 (review)

When a programmer put his heart and soul into a project it shows and that’s exactly what Brent Simmons has done with the recently released NetNewsWire 2.0. I’ve been using the beta’s for a very long time and never had any issues or crashes. It has become an indispensable tool in my daily life.

Digital asset management

Digital asset management that is the “fancy” term of the topic from last Friday. Since then I’ve tested several of the applications that were mentioned in the comments. For those that haven’t been following along we we’re talking about archiving solutions for all the files that we have to deal with in our daily job. In our case that is a DVD full of all kind of files like fonts, icons, music, QuickTime files, eps, psd, pdf, Abobe Illustrator, InDesign, Quark etc.

Style Master 3.5 review

I’ve been using a demo version of Style Master for about 3 weeks now and I must say there are several cool features I like. First thing I like a lot about Style Master is the fact that your code mode is still visible while you add a property to your statement through the sliding menus. You see a live-update of your code while doing this.

Serial numbers, logins and passwords… What a mess!

0 comments 2004 at 03.46 am posted by Veerle Pieters

Over the years I’ve “collected” so much serial numbers, logins and passwords that it’s always a pain when I need to look up something. There is a limit on how much software boxes you can stack, especially if you’re a regular updater and use a lot of programs. My office life was pretty much a mess until I discovered this handy tool that organizes all of this.

For those who aren’t familar with the term Usenet, Usenet is the Internet’s oldest message board where archives date back to 1981! It contains tens of thousands of groups of every imaginable topic and everybody sees what everybody else posts.

Pixadex 1.2, the icon organizer app

If you are an icon addict and have lots of them I’m sure you would like to keep a nice overview, so that you can easily find what you are looking for. Pixadex is to icons, what Apple’s iPhoto is to images. It stores and organizes all you icons in a smart way.
